Isla Mujeres Marriage Proposal | Wedding Proposal | Panu + Kristina
This future groom brought his future wife a very long distance for a wedding proposal! Home for Panu and Christina is Finland. The stop on Isla Mujeres was half way between a longer trip that started in Cuba and continue to Tulum after they left the island.
Panu wanted a private and beautiful setting for his proposal. After much deliberation, he decided on an overlook terrace at Punta Sur. As I always do, I arrived at the location early and couldn’t believe what I saw! A mariachi band was filming a music video close to where Panu was going to propose. If there is something that is not quiet, it’s a mariachi band! Choosing an alternate location that was far from the music video wasn’t a problem for me at all. There is a breathtaking lookout point that has always been one of my favorite spots at Punta Sur. I texted Panu and shared my thoughts and the modified plan was set!
When they arrived, Panu and Christina walked out the path toward the point. When they arrived at ‘the spot’, Christina didn’t want to stay there but wanted to explore the area instead so they continued walking around. I knew Panu must have been very nervous at this point, but I was calm and knew he would eventually find his way back to the location and propose to his beautiful bride-to-be which was exactly how it happened. From my vantage point (hidden behind a metal sculpture) I photographed them as Panu got down on one knee and asked the love of his life to marry him! It was a very sweet and tender moment. Oh…and Christina said YES!
After the initial hugs and kissing that follow a monumental moment like this, I went up and introduced myself. I told Christina that in addition to capturing Panu’s proposal, I was going to photograph their engagement session. As we walked around taking photographs, they shared their love story that started eight years ago!
Following our photography session at Punta Sur, we headed back to Icaco Island Village where they were staying. Panu worked with the owner, Mathew, to put together a romantic dinner on the roof top terrace. Chef and restaurant owner, Lori Dumm of Islabites and Chaya & Cacao, cooked an incredible dinner for the newly engaged couple. With a backdrop filled with gorgeous views to the Caribbean Sea and of the sunset, they sat down to a wonderful dinner and champagne.
I wish Panu and Christina all the happiness in the world as they start this next life adventure together!
