Isla Mujeres Marriage Proposal + Engagement Photography | Tyler + Danielle

A week or so before their vacation, Tyler reached out to me about getting information on my photography collections for marriage proposals and engagement sessions on Isla Mujeres. He had been scouring the web for photographers who could capture his surprise proposal to his long time girlfriend, Danielle. From what I gathered, he looked at quite a number of photographers before deciding to move forward with me. I was honored that he put his trust in me to capture this once in a lifetime moment with the woman he loves!

Tyler looked through my portfolio and selected the lookout point at Punta Sur for the special moment. His decision was based upon the angle of photography with the incredible Caribbean Sea as the backdrop. They were staying in Cancun and never had been to the island before so he was a bit nervous about successfully pulling it off which I explained “don’t worry, when someone hires me to photograph their marriage proposal, I provide a detailed step by step document that starts with the time you need to leave your hotel in Cancun until the spot you’ve chosen for the big “I DO””.

As they were crossing over on the ferry, I arrived at the spot to set up. Shortly after my arrival, I watched as this wall of water was quickly moving my way across the ocean. I grabbed my gear and quickly moved to the small cave near where I was waiting. I texted Tyler and explained that he needed to wait a bit before walking out to the point as it was raining, but it would most likely quickly pass as these types of showers typically do. Well in the end, the timing was actually perfect! By the time they arrived in their taxi at Punta Sur the rain had stopped and I was back in my secret spot waiting.

When they walked onto the platform where Tyler was to propose, they looked off over the sea to Cancun together.. As Danielle was still facing Cancun, Tyler stepped back and got down on one knee. Danielle quickly turned around to see him and within seconds, realized what was happening. TYLER WAS PROPOSING MARRIAGE!!!! From my vantage point, I was able to capture all the fun and tender expressions that crossed Danielle’s face in all her excitement. It was such a wonderful moment for them both!

After the excitement, kisses and hugs of the proposal, I called down to introduce myself and congratulate the happy couple. I told Danielle that Tyler had hired me to secretly photograph his proposal and now we were going to take their engagement photos. Danielle was so excited…she was literally walking on a cloud. It was so cute!

For about the next hour, we walked around the cliffs of Punta Sur taking photos as they shared their love story with me. They meet five years ago through mutual friends. For about two months, they talked and got to know each other before starting to date. I can honestly say that this couple are honestly made for each other! They have such a spark together and I was thrilled that I was there to photograph this next chapter in their love story.

I wish you both, Tyler and Danielle, all the happiness in the world! Now Isla Mujeres is part of your love story!
