Mia Reef Wedding | Isla Mujeres Wedding Photography | Drew + Jay
Isla Mujeres’, Mia Reef, is an exclusive all-inclusive resort on a private island that boosts incredible Caribbean views making it the perfect venue for a destination wedding in Mexico!
Like many couples, Drew and Jay had to wait out COVID to have their destination wedding. Jay proposed in July 2019 and they were planning on a February 2021 wedding, but that was pushed back a year. The decision to have their destination wedding on Isla Mujeres was always part of their plan though having visited the island four times prior.
I first met up with Jay while he was getting ready with his brother and father and then headed over to join Drew. They both wrote vows to each other and decided they would rather read them privately than during the ceremony. How romantic is that! I loved the range of emotion from both of them as they read each other’s words of love.
The weather on Drew and Jay’s wedding day was a bit unpredictable; however, I have to say that this couple was incredibly lucky! When it did rain, it was during the down time between photos and the ceremony. Between the stormy sky and the crazy wind, it made for some dramatic shots especially with Drew’s long veil. From a photographer’s perspective, I loved it!
They choose to have their ceremony at the gazebo overlooking the sea. After they said “I Do”, they were handed two champagne flutes which they quickly drank and walked down the aisle hands in the air while guests tossed rose pedals at them. I love how playful this couple is together. Their love really shines through!
Their reception was held under a romantic wooden palapa on the beach with a lite dance floor that had all the guests dancing on into the night.
I’m so incredibly happy for Drew and Jay and I am honored to have been their destination wedding photographer!
A big shout out to Viviana Mendez who was the planner for their wedding. She did an incredible job at organizing everything even with the potential changes that needed to happen because of the pending rain situation!
